Another day, another blog, another chocolate chip cookie.
Before I started this entire journey (“Quest” if you will), I had a go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe. I added my own little alterations and methods to it, but in general, this was the recipe that I believed to be the BEST chocolate chip cookies of all time.
These beauties are from “The Baking Chocolatess;” she herself calls them “Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies.” I have always believed they held up to their name, but who knows…maybe after trying all these recipes, the hype won’t be as big.
I still haven’t cracked the code as to why I love them so much; they seem so similar to all other recipes. 1 stick of softened butter gets creamed for a few with 6 Tbsp sugar and ½ cup brown sugar. An egg and vanilla go in, and then flour, baking soda, and salt. 2 ¼ cups chocolate chips get folded in; just slightly more than the typical recipe.
The recipe states that you can chill them if the dough seems warm. Typically, I scoop them into balls, then chill them until the oven preheats. However, it was late at night when I made these, and I just could not be bothered to wait. To prevent scooping for hours, I used a large cookie scoop; the recipe states and provides baking times for large, medium, and small cookies, which I appreciate.
I ended up baking these a minute less than recommended, but they looked PERFECT to me.

Time to rate!
The Look: I always think these are beautiful. They’re UNIFORM, slightly poofy, and have a golden exterior but obviously soft interior. Plenty of chocolate chips poke out as well. Beautiful! 9.5/10
Crunchy Chew: Okay, maybe these don’t fit the EXACT definition of crunchy chew; moreso, like crunchy goo. But this. This to me, is another PERFECT texture of a cookie. Before I tried other recipes, this was the ONLY acceptable texture to me. They’re crisp on the outside, but have an oh-so gooey center. I probably underbaked them slightly, but they were PERFECT. 10/10
Chip to Dough Ratio: These are again, perfect. Because of the gooey center, it’s the perfect blend of dough and molten chocolate. It’s beautiful, really. Granted, I LOVE a good chocolate overload in cookies. For those who like less, the Baking Chocolatess gives appropriate accommodation options, granting her the perfect score. 10/10
Overall Taste: I once again, am saying, these are delicious. When I think of other recipes, there’s a chance they may have more flavor. These taste MOSTLY of chocolate, and are gonna require a side-by-side with other cookies to know if the taste is up to par with the rest. However, for what they are…chocolatey bites of heaven…they’re delicious. 9/10
Wow Factor: I think the intensely gooey, chocolatey center definitely earns a wow factor point. My family made a point to tell me these were particularly good! Could they have had more of a wow factor? Sure. But again, for what they are, they do well. 8.5/10
FINAL SCORE: 9.4/10
These are just BARELY under Martha Stewart and Double Tree’s. HOWEVER, they are such a different texture, it’s hard to compare. They are almost otherworldly. It’s gonna take a side-by-side comparison to know for sure. Or, perhaps, is there a way to combine the texture of these with the taste of the others? Let’s find out.
