Quarantine Diaries: Day 1-2

As the longest "coronacation" FINALLY comes to an end, I've recently had to shift my mentality into a "back-to-school" mode. I currently attend Syracuse University, and the NY Governor Andrew Cuomo mandated that those coming from a hotspot state must quarantine for 14 days.

Two of my closest friends and I are all from California, and all came from the same area. Therefore, we decided to tackle this quarantine together. And if you have to quarantine in NY, you might as well make it NYC and quarantine with a view!

Obviously, being in quarantine does NOT entail us getting to "run around" freely and enter every shop we see. We've been all taking extra care and being extra CAREFUL to keep us and others safe. While we were all negative prior to traveling, taking a flight is always a risk!

So while what we do is limited due to safety, I figured I would blog about what we DO do each day! Partially to share with you all, partially to have a "diary" entry of sorts to remember all of this.

Before I dive in, there's two people you should know. These guys are my best friends and 2/3 members of this quarantine crew.

Allow me to introduce to you...

Maya!

Quick facts: She's a fashion major. A vegetarian. 19 years old. Always in style, always funny, always ready for an adventure.

Alex!

Quick facts: She majors in public health and international relations. A taurus. 20 years old! Knows random facts about quite literally EVERYTHING. Never afraid to be herself.

So without further ado! Let's get into it.

DAY 1:

We traveled via flight for most of the day. We got to our hotel, removed our MULTIPLE masks, face shields, etc. for the first time in 8 hours, showered, wiped everything down, and then ordered pizza...because when in NYC! It never fails.

Since we got into NYC pretty late, that's essentially all Day 1 entailed...well, that and a lot of chit chat catching up:).

At the airport!

Which reminds me...you always know you've found your people when you don't see each other for five months, but when you come back together, it's like you never left<3.

DAY 2:

Our first REAL day in NYC! Due to a time change, we woke up pretty dang late. But we're in quarantine; there are no obligations.

Eventually, we got ourselves ready to SaFeLy enter the real world: truly, any outside time calls for dressing up.

Once we made ourselves look cute, we decided to take a walk to Central Park. It's a little over 2 miles from us, so we stopped for coffee and food along the way. We set out a blanket in an area where we were pretty much alone and dug into our first real meal of the day...at 3:30pm. Whoops.

Coffee...in a safe way:)

I had a cold brew "infused" with oat milk, cinnamon, and vanilla, and the other two had their own latte/mocha concoctions as well. We each got the spicy avo toast as well...which certainly lived up to its name.

We sat, people watched, and talked more...

Then we walked around various parts of Central Park, snapped a few pics (of course) and then suddenly it was 6:30pm! We stopped by a Whole Foods to grab some dinner and then embarked on the journey home.

We caught up with our parents, ate dinner, and then ate some Chocolate Chip Cookies that Maya's mom had delivered. They were from Schmakery's, and it was safe to say...they schmacked. The flavor and the textures? Incredible.

The rest of the night was spent talking (seeing a pattern here?), watching TikTok's, and being wide awake due to a coffee @3:30pm + jetlag combo.

And that's it! Obviously it's not much, but it's definitely the MOST fun way I could possibly be spending quarantine...in a city filled with parks surrounded by some people that I love.
